Jefferson Rogers

MD

Dr. Jefferson Rogers is a board certified general psychiatrist with experience in hospitals across the nation, from as far east as Boston, all the way to Seattle, working as a travel psychiatrist before he decided to settle back down in his native state of Mississippi. Dr. Rogers now lives on a small farm outside of the Hattiesburg area with his wife, Elana.

Dr. Rogers obtained an undergraduate degree in German and Latin from the University of Southern Mississippi and afterward attended medical school in Jackson, Mississippi at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He then completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

Dr. Rogers’ primary passion is a focus on mood disorders, such as depression, bipolar disorder, addiction, and geriatric medicine. He was a central member in research conducted by the UAB School of Public Health that was focused on cocaine addiction and novel therapies focused for cocaine and stimulant use disorders.

Dr. Rogers was trained in both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies which he utilizes along with medication management, which is his primary role within the Doxa team. However, it is his belief that strong therapy and healthy lifestyle choices generally outweigh most medications that he can offer, and he strives to limit over-prescription of medications leading to polypharmacology. Instead, he uses evidence-based medicine to streamline his prescription choices with a focus on a balance of diet, exercise, and a strong therapeutic alliance.
